Opposition Leader Angus Taylor told the NSW Liberal State Council the Coalition would cap migration according to housing construction, calling it one of the biggest immigration cuts in Australian history. With homebuilding near the 170,000 level Taylor cited, the ceiling would sit well below the latest net overseas migration figure of 292,100 to March 2026 and below Labor’s budget path toward 225,000. Taylor said intake would be lower still in a Coalition government’s first years. The pitch sharpens the Coalition alternative after Labor’s migration overhaul and competing One Nation calls for deeper temporary-visa cuts, framing population growth as running ahead of housing supply.
